The slander

In criminal law, article 205 of the Criminal Code article 205 of the Criminal Code defines slander as « the imputation of a crime committed in the knowledge of its falsity or as an indiscriminate disregard for the truth ».

Sentence in case of slander : imprisonment from six months to two years or fine of 12 to 24 months if it is propagated with advertising and in other cases it is a fine of six to twelve months.

The legal good that the criminal law protects in this case is the honor of the person, a fundamental element of human dignity.

  • Active subject : any natural person.
  • Passive subject : any natural person as a legal person.
  • Action : the act of slander consists in attributing to another person a false act constituting a crime.
